Alive Inside – The Magic of Music and Memory
I recently watched the documentary, Alive Inside and it deeply moved me. I often talk to families about the importance of music and memory. I even created a āName that Tuneā activity for a memory care community I once worked at. It was amazing to see the entire room come to life with each song. In that same community, there was a family member who visited her mother every day with her iPod. They sat sharing earbuds and eating cookies.Ā
There are many Adult Family Homes and Communities that use music in their activity programming. I love touring and seeing a guitarist, pianist or even just a cd playing music from decades past. The proof of the power of music is undeniable.
Those struggling with Alzheimerās or Dementia may seem lost at first glance but they are very much alive…reacting to laughter, a smile, children, animals and especially their favorite song. During a visit with one of my clients whose father suffers from Alzheimerās, his daughter began telling me how he used to be in a band and was the yodeler! With very little prompting he gave us the most impressive yodel!
After watching this documentary, I will continue to talk tell families how important music and memory is.
Check out the trailer below and visit Alive Inside to see how you can help this cause…itās well worth your time!
